The central spot right across from The Paramount opens officially on Thursday, June 13 at 371 New York Ave.
It is suitable for both family dining and late night cocktails.
Owners Andrew Affa and Steve Squitiro created a colorful spot to harmoniously unite the two under one roof.
The taco menu takes its cue from street food but is uniquely different.
"We call it authentically inauthentic. We've taken a lot of the bones of Mexican cuisine from street food like taco stands and taquerias. Where we switch it is in our gourmet way," Affa told Daily Voice.
We let our chef feel free to create dishes. So one example is chargrilled octopus taco served with mole sauce. And we have a chicken confit with corn bacon succotash taco, also vegan tacos that are different," he continued.
Along with a 15-taco menu, there are "cool apps" like "chicken lollipops" and "Mexican street corn" and a late night menu is served to 1 a.m.
"We have a strong emphasis on local food. We source purveyors from local farms, use non-GMO (ingredients), organic, free-range (poultry) and grass-fed meat," Affa said.
Originally from Wantagh, Affa lives in Huntington.
"It's one of the most walkable areas on Long Island. There are 35 bars and restaurants spread out," he said, adding that he and Squitiro who lives in Deer Park are happy to be part of that lively scene.
"We are a nightlife place. Our cocktail program has just as much emphasis as our food. Our bar manager/mixologist has worked for three months creating a cocktail list," Affa said.
A popular drink is free trade matcha green tea, MezCal, citrus, and almond milk.
New spirits and drinks will be introduced each week and Mission Taco has a rotating list of over 20 craft beers with a strong emphasis on local hops. In addition, beverages include cold-pressed juices and local kombucha.
Inside the owners took care to create a colorful vibe, using wood and brick finishes, contrasted with bright colors, and there's a 30-foot mural by a local street artist.
